A claim is the moment your insurance matters most. Here is how it works, what to have ready, and how I help — so you are never doing it alone.
If anyone is hurt or in danger, call 911. Make sure people are safe, prevent further damage if you can do so safely (shut off water, cover a broken window), and keep everyone clear of hazards before you think about paperwork.
Your claim is filed and paid by your insurance carrier — the company that issued your policy. Most carriers offer a 24/7 claims line, an app, and an online portal, and reporting quickly usually leads to a faster, smoother outcome. If you are not sure who your carrier is or how to reach them, call me and I will point you to the right place.
It helps to have your policy number, the date and a short description of what happened, photos or video of any damage, and contact details for anyone else involved. For auto claims, note the other driver’s insurance and a police report number if there is one. For property claims, keep receipts for any emergency repairs.
As your independent agent, I am your advocate through the process. I can help you understand your coverage before you file, walk you through reporting it to the carrier, explain what the adjuster is asking for, and follow up if things stall. You are not on your own with a call center — you have someone who knows your policy.
