Still working and covered by an employer plan at 65? Find your 8-month window to enroll in Part B without a late-enrollment penalty.
If you keep working past 65 and stay on employer or union group coverage, you may qualify for a Special Enrollment Period (SEP) to sign up for Part B without a late penalty. The SEP generally lasts 8 months, starting the month after your employment or the group coverage ends — whichever happens first. Enter the month your coverage (or job) ends to see your window.
Note: COBRA and retiree coverage do not count as active employer coverage for this SEP. If your job ends and you move to COBRA, your 8-month window usually starts when the job ended, not when COBRA ends.
Enrolling during your Special Enrollment Period avoids the lifelong Part B late-enrollment penalty. Missing it can mean higher premiums for as long as you have Part B, plus a possible gap until the next General Enrollment Period. If you're close to this transition, it's worth confirming your exact dates with a licensed agent or 1-800-MEDICARE.

Figures that change every year — such as the standard Part B premium, the Part D national base beneficiary premium, and IRMAA income brackets — are entered by you so the math always reflects the current year. Always verify current amounts at Medicare.gov or 1‑800‑MEDICARE.
